The Art of Loving Retreat Center

"If you treat an individual as he is, he will stay as he is,
but if you treat him as if he were what he ought to be,
he will become what he ought to be and could be."
...Goethe

1. What is the Art of Loving Community Center?

The Art of Loving Community Center is an evolving, loving, spiritual community of non-discriminatory people coming from all walks of life to learn the art of unconditional loving. We are a non-judgmental, accepting group seeking fulfillment of self through spiritual awareness.

Within the collective power of this community, we empower each other to embrace limits, challenge blocks or role distortions, nurture ourselves and develop friendships. Our goal is to empower ourselves, establish mutuality with others, and heal the world around us.

The Art of Loving Community is modeled after the Shalom Community Retreat and Study Center in New York, founded in 1976 by Gerald and Elizabeth Jud.

2. What is an Art of Loving Retreat?

"The Art of Loving Retreat" is a model of spiritual community offering an intensive growth and learning experience in the context of a loving and supportive community based on the principles of loving: that Love is a gift, Love is not time-bound, Love is good will in action, and Love is response to need.

"Loving is an art whose skills are learned through seeing, hearing, extending good will and recognizing that all people have the right to think and feel as they do," allowing us to be fully present in all our relationships.

Feelings have a central place in the Art of Loving Retreats. Special attention is paid to suppressed fear, anger, grief and pain as they block the free-flowing life energy. Techniques such as Reiki, fantasy, primal scream, role play, gestalt and bioenergetics are used as means for releasing blocked feelings, thereby increasing our ability to give and receive love.

"The Art of Loving Retreats" are for personal growth. They are not intended as a substitute for psychotherapy. They are designed for functioning persons who seek to grow and become more self-aware.
